Boston-based cellist, teacher, arranger Alex Fowler has appeared frequently on the Boston Symphony Orchestra concert series, What I Hear, performing solo and chamber works by Bermel, Currier, Saariaho, Widmann, and Dzenitis. Alex received New England Conservatory’s John Cage Award for Contemporary Performance and won Entrepreneurial Musicianship’s Spark Award for his work as a musical storyteller through the Community Performances & Partnerships program, curating original programs combining stories and cello repertoire for young audiences around Boston. Alex received a B.A. in Cello Performance from Virginia Tech, studying under cellist Alan Weinstein, and a M.M. and G.D. from the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Yeesun Kim.

Alex has performed in the section of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Bedford Symphony, Emmanuel Music, Boston Chamber Symphony, Phoenix Orchestra, Apollo Chamber Ensemble, Longwood Symphony Orchestra, and the conductor-less string ensemble, Palaver Strings. He also teaches at the Community Music Center of Boston and Brookline Music School in addition to running his own private studio.

Alex is the principal cellist of the Du Bois Orchestra, the assistant principal cellist of the Cape Ann Symphony, and performs regularly with the Phoenix Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic, the New Bedford Symphony, and the conductor-less string ensemble, Palaver Strings.
